A comprehensive approach allowing World Obesity Federation to effectively support its mission of addressing obesity through education, data, and advocacy.
Optima was selected to develop a new member website and patient portal for the World Obesity Federation, an organization dedicated to tackling global obesity issues.
The project involved a comprehensive brand update and the creation of a more user-friendly, responsive digital platform to better engage with members and stakeholders. The previous website had several limitations that hindered its effectiveness. Built on a restrictive CMS (Wix) and featuring a dark, heavy visual design, the site did not effectively support the organization’s goals. It lacked flexibility, making content updates and integration with external systems challenging. Additionally, the website’s design failed to fully engage users or reflect the organization’s impactful mission. Optima’s approach was to first create a modern, impactful brand update using positive, engaging colors and a cohesive visual style.
Optima tendered, pitched, and ultimately won the opportunity to transform the World Obesity Federation’s online presence. Our focus was to deliver a modern, scalable website that could grow alongside the organization’s evolving needs.
We began by refreshing the World Obesity Federation’s brand, moving away from a dark, gloomy palette to a brighter, more engaging color scheme. This new visual identity brought energy and clarity to the website, with attractive colors, impactful imagery, and a clear set of brand guidelines. We also introduced a cohesive design system that includes iconography, illustrations, and style applications, ensuring consistency across all printed and digital touchpoints.
The new website has provided the World Obesity Federation with a robust platform that is not only visually striking but also highly functional. The move to ExpressionEngine has empowered the organization with greater flexibility to manage content, while the Salesforce integration streamlines member engagement and data management. A dedicated space has been created for members to access resources, engage with the organization, and connect with peers globally. The improved user experience, combined with a more engaging design, has positioned the World Obesity Federation for future growth and enhanced impact in their mission to address global obesity.
The World Obesity Federation’s website serves as a central hub for a wealth of resources aimed at supporting the global fight against obesity. It is a resource for policy information, journals and other resources including an image bank. The image resource offers a gallery of free-to-use, non-biased, and respectful images, ensuring that accurate visual representations of obesity are available to stakeholders worldwide.
The website also promotes valuable tools such as SCOPE, the leading online training program for healthcare professionals, which offers education and certification in obesity management. Additionally, the Global Obesity Observatory provides critical data and statistics on obesity, offering comprehensive insights on trends and patterns across the globe. While these resources are housed on separate microsites, they maintain a consistent and strong brand identity that aligns with the main website, providing users with a seamless, unified experience.
