UNI Global Union Bringing global unity to life in Liverpool
Our empowering identity for UNI Global Union Congress 2018 helped ‘make it happen’
The 2018 UNI Global Union Congress in Liverpool centered on several key global challenges, focusing on uniting and empowering workers across the world. The event brought together over 2,500 union leaders from more than 110 countries.
With the theme of "Making It Happen," the Congress addressed issues such as the future of work in the digital age, the need for stronger international solidarity among unions, and the importance of both ecological and social sustainability. Empowerment and inclusivity were also central themes, with a focus on amplifying the voices of women, youth, and marginalized workers in the global labor movement. The Congress also saw the election of Christy Hoffman as General Secretary, marking a renewed emphasis on organizing workers and promoting collective bargaining.
Optima supported the Congress by creating a dynamic and vibrant visual identity that captured the energy of the event and its inspirational speakers. We developed the Congress website and designed the event materials, which featured powerful imagery of the inspirational speakers. We crafted an identity that incorporated a bold ribbon graphic and the iconic Liver bird emblem, which ran through all materials, creating a cohesive and energetic look, expanding the UNI Global Union color palette to include warm yellows and oranges alongside their signature red.
The Liver bird, the enduring symbol of the city of Liverpool, represents resilience and strength. Known for its rich history as a hub of trade unionism and activism, Liverpool provided the perfect backdrop for the UNI Global Union Congress, with its spirit of solidarity and defiance against inequality reflected in the design of the event.
The overall vision of the 2018 UNI Global Union Congress was to build a powerful, resilient global labor movement capable of addressing today’s challenges and driving long-lasting change for workers across the world. Optima’s design helped bring the Congress to life, ensuring that the messaging and themes were communicated effectively across all platforms and languages, creating a vibrant and impactful experience for attendees.
